Oat Crunchies recipe

This recipe is the closest I got to making those crunchies that my mother used to make! It was my brother's favourite!

Preheat oven to 180'C

750ml fine desiccated coconut
4 x 250ml rolled oats
250ml cake flour
375ml sugar
3ml salt
5ml cinnamon
250g butter or margarine (melted)
40ml golden syrup (don't be shy with the syrup!)
10ml bicarbonate of soda
65ml milk

1. Combine all the dry ingredients.
2. Add the syrup to the melted margarine.
3. Add the bicarb of soda to the milk.

Line a baking tray (27cm x 37cm) with baking paper.

Combine all the ingredients and mix well with a wooden spoon. Gently spoon the mixture into the lined baking tray and firmly press down with the back of a desert spoon.

Bake for 15 minutes until golden brown. Remove from oven and cut into squares and bake for 5 more minutes. Let the crunchies slightly cool before removing them from the baking tray. Let them cool completely on a drying rack.

Beautiful childhood memories!

Ten things I love... things that are definitely made in heaven!

Do you sometimes think, this is so good it must come straight from heaven? Here is my list of the top ten things I love most: (not in any specific order)

#1 Ginger
I love ginger. Fresh, dried, powdered or just a slice in hot tea. When I was little my mother used to buy ginger sweets covered in dark chocolate. No one else in the house liked them. Today I follow in her footsteps! I love fresh ginger in curry,.I love ginger in a vanilla smoothie. I love ginger and cinnamon stove top pudding! Click here for that recipe. And check out this recipe!

#2 Leeks
I love leeks in soup, leeks with chicken, and olive oil fried leeks with a macaroni and cheese!

#3 Coriander (dhania, or also known as cilantro)
Fresh or dried coriander. It is one of those beautiful tastes that must have been made in heaven!
Coriander also has amazing health benefits. It is easy to grow so I always have fresh dhania in my garden.

#4 Cinnamon
Anything with cinnamon will do! Love love love!

#5 Cacao
Hmm... chocolate.

#6 Salt
Were would we be without salt. Salt acts as a preservative and gives taste to life. We are to be salt to this world. Matthew 5:13 "You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot."

#7 Naartjies
My favourite winter fruit! Now in season.

#8 Chicory
My coffee substitute! Since the season of menopause has arrived in my life, coffee had to go. Unfortunately coffee made all my symptoms of menopause seven times worse. Fact.

#9 Echinacea
A miracle herb! I always have echinacea in my house and I use it for colds and flu and even in powdered form on superficial wounds!

#10 My Bible
Most important of all the things I love. I would be lost without the Word of God to guide me through my days. Psalm 119:105 "Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path."

Dinge en goeters.

Ek het my vreeslik vervies anderdag.

Stuur my naaldwerkwinkel toe dan sal ek regkom.

'n Teater masker is my ondergang!

When entertainment becomes God...

The church is located in an old dance arena where I used to go to as a young unbeliever. There were bus loads of young people being transported there that night from all over town and college campuses. It gave me the idea of a "mega church" and probably a place where these young people felt very much at home. No need to change your ways, just come as you are, you are loved and excepted. Have a ball, nobody will miss you if you stayed at home because yikes, there are so many people here you can just get lost in it all! Welcome to Hillsong Church.

This past weekend the Colour Conference was organized by the Hillsong Church. Lots of my lady friends at church attended last year and I got two complimentary tickets. Liza couldn't go so I invited my friend and off we went on Friday night. Hooray a night away from home on our own to worship our Lord and what more could we ask for?

I have to say, after the first five minutes I wanted to run away. A young man making suggestive hip movements and hyping up a crowd of woman to do the same on the beat of Michael Jackson was not what I expected. This was going on for 30 minutes or more. Worldly music and woman dancing with their hands in the air worshiping what? Who? Are we not to be transformed renewed in our minds? To not conform to this world?

Romans 12:1 "Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God - this is your true and proper worship."

The young man with a big tattoo with the words "Jesus Christ" underneath his upper arm was stirring up young ladies to dance to the beat of satan.

Romans 12:2 "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then your will be able to test and approve what God's will is - His good, pleasing and perfect will."

Do we have to imitate the world to have a good time? Do we have to taste and smell just like the world? How then will we or they know the difference? How will they see the light? If we look just like them? Did God not call us to be separate? Holy? Pure? Salt and Light?

Matthew 5:48 "Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect."

And moments later, these ladies lifted their hands, a moment ago lifted in praise to the world, now to worship Jesus.

I stayed. I wish I didn't. My friend was disappointed when I said I wasn't going back there on the Saturday. I was so disgusted in how they started this conference. It was really so unnecessary and nauseating it just spoiled everything for me. I didn't take the pastors or the teachings seriously. How can you expect me to?

"When entertainment becomes God, then God has to become entertaining to be worshipped."

Quotes.

CT Studd - "Christ's call is to capture men from the devil's clutches and snatch them from the very jaws of hell, to enlist and train them for Jesus and make them a mighty army of God. But this can only be accomplished by red-hot, unconventional, unfettered Holy Spirit religion... by reckless sacrifice and heroism in the foremost trenches."
